Temptation Island Review & Recap – Episode 1 Air Date Thursday, 8-28-03

This is the first episode of Temptation Island that I have ever watched. I wasn’t intrigued enough last season, but must admit the Fox promos were good enough that I thought I’d partake in this new season since I have the opportunity to start with episode 1. This is the show’s third season.

While not quite as entertaining as Survivor or Paradise Hotel, the first episode of Temptation Island 2 was interesting enough to hold my attention. I don’t quite have an attachment to any of the cast members yet, but this is only the season opener.

So what is the show all about? Set in a tropical paradise, the Bay Islands off the Central American Coast to be exact, Temptation Island 3 focuses on the relationships of four couples “seeking to challenge the strength of their love and trust”. 2 weeks of temptation and teasery.

These relationships are put to the test with the help of 28 “eligible singles” who will no doubt be tempting them with all sorts of sordid schemes. 14 dudes and 14 ladies to stir up the pot.

Episode 1 opens with a slick montage of quickly edited moments in an attempt to fill us in to what the show is all about and more importantly hook us into thinking it will be sordid and exciting. Just 4 real couples. Willing to risk. The adventure begins now. Survivor like music plays in the background showing all the excitement this season has in store for us.

“I just wanna go home” she cries. Temptation Island is back. OK, that leads us to believe some serious stuff will be going down.

We then meet the various couples. Interview footage gives us an idea of how committed they are to each other.

Couple # 1. Melissa and Michael from Long Island, New York – together for two years. Miss New York.

Couple # 2. Kristin and Eric from Farmville, Virginia – together three years. Blonde cutie.

Couple # 3. Stephanie and Anthony from Chicago, Illinois – together 3 years. Steph is cute. She likes make up sex.

Couple # 4. Kara and Jason from Las Vegas, Nevada – together for over a year. Kara was in a bikini calendar.

They fly out to paradise. We are treated to dolphins, seagulls and palm tree visuals.

Host Mark welcomes the 4 couples as they arrive on boat. Time for the host to chat up the couples. We learn a little about them via some q & a.

A ship is arriving with a rowdy bunch of dudes. The 14 male tempters are yelling and hollering. A bit intimidating.

Ditto with the women except they aint no hootin’ and hollering. They parade by the couples.

This is their introduction to Temptation Island.

Host Mark asks to talk to the ladies privately. He tells them that each of the 14 tempter ladies have watched videos of the 4 ladies’ boyfriends and that each of the tempters will walk up and give a bracelet to say it was “your boyfriend that they were most attracted to”.

The pageant begins and each gives a bracelet as they pass by.

Time for the dudes. Ditto. One by one the dudes come and let them know it’s their girl they want. Tension mounts when one of the tempter dudes disses Jason.

It’s time to say goodbye. 5 minutes to say last words. Hokey. Final kisses. Sad music plays. The adventure begins now.

OK. It’s now the 30 minute mark and we are half way through the episode.

The couples check in to their lodgings. The men separate from the ladies. It’s finally playtime.

Host Mark welcomes the couples the next morning. He tells them they will now get to meet the tempters and find out more about them. One by one the guys and ladies switch off and introduce themselves. Cheesy like a bad pageant, but loaded with sexual innuendos.

Basically we got a taste of the tempters and the couples reactions to them.
Next we have a challenge. Each of them have to pick the one that they are most threatened by their boyfriend or girlfriend to date.

One by one they place necklaces on the tempters. Some macho shit occurs with Jason and the slimey dude who dissed him the day before, but it doesn’t warrant further explanation.

Next morning we are treated to an aerobic workout. Cheese.

The couples gather and Host Mark discusses how they feel about the necklace bearers (most threatened by) leaving on the boat. (I didn't catch that the necklace bearers were leaving???) The dudes seem relieved. But then he says he has a surprise and explains that the person they gave their necklace to will be their spouses first dates. Gasp! Shock, awe... kind of... So... they are leaving. Reactions. Tension.

Jason is obviously upset he picked the dude that dissed him. They have bad blood for each other and Jason now has him dating his girlie. Surprise surprise.

OK, that was kinda cool. Guess I am intrigued enough to tune in for the next episode.

Well, I can’t say I am hooked yet, but this show seems to have promise. It is well done and the folks seem attractive enough. We’ll just have to tune in again to see if the momentum builds on Temptation Island 3.
